KC Trails is involved in a number of projects that will expand the trails within Kershaw County, South Carolina.

This list represents ideas and efforts to expand the development and maintenance of trails for walking, bicycling, and paddling in Kershaw County

Expand Community Use of Schools for Exercise

North Central Middle and Elementary Schools – 1.5 mile Trail

KC Trails has been working with the principals at North Central Middle and Elementary Schools to develop a 1.5 mile trail around the perimeter of the property.  The trail will connect to the High School trail across the street which is 1.2 miles long.  

Nature as Teacher – Increase public access

Nature as Teacher is an 800 acre property on the Wateree River that is owned by Clemson taht is dedicated educating the public about wilderness and conservation.   The Nature as Teacher Preserve is currently opened to the public one weekend per month from May through October.    KC Trails is looking for organizations that can support the cost of weekend Saturday staffing for the Preserve so that thatit can be opened to the public more often.  Cost per Saturday is $2000 and KC

Bethune – New park property and trails

The town of Bethune recently acquired an an old schoolhouse and 80+ acres of property.  The mayor and council have discussed the possibility of developing trails on this property including nature trails in a wooded section of the property.

Wateree River – Boykin Access

When paddling south from Camden Environmental Park, it has been suggested that potential good take out would be  Swift Creek near The Mill Pond restaurant.  This project would be get permissions and explore the navigability of Swift Creek for put in and take out.
